In 1978 Burke Marketing Research of Cincinnati had field sites in malls throughout the country. Ultimately Burke found that owning satellite sites was not economical or efficient. In 1981 they divested all their mall locations. Montgomery Mall was purchased by Bill Bartlett owner of the Suburban chain of malls and pre recruit centers, and thus we became employees of Suburban Associates of Philadelphia. This ownership lasted for 10 years.

Suburban Associates, under the leadership of Jane Reckner, soon outgrew the mall location. As the company grew, more space was acquired in Montgomeryville, PA.

After 10 years of managing a profitable operation for Suburban, Jane Reckner was able to purchase her freedom from Suburban. This was a dream of Jane’s for many years, but with a growing family and a terminally ill husband the timing just never seemed right. In 1991 JRA, J. Reckner Associates, Inc. was incorporated. Unfortunately Jane had less than a year to live the dream of heading her own company. Two of Jane’s sons, Peter and David Reckner, are active owners in the company.

Our healthcare practice began in 1992 when Frances Grubb joined JRA. She brought medical field experience which was the beginning of a very successful business. This business enabled us to build a robust database of physicians willing to participate in market research. When medical research migrated to the web, we were well positioned to move with it. Today our healthcare practice represents 60% of our business.

In 2006 JRA celebrated 15 years of success. We began our second strategic planning process to move the company forward. The result of this was the creation of a full service enterprise. Steve Aukers, Ph.D. was brought into JRA to build this new business venture. Results were very positive in 2008.

In the fall of 2008 Frances Grubb announced her retirement. Steve Aukers, Ph.D. was named the new CEO. Steve brings to JRA the strategic ability to grow JRA into a full service provider. This new full service group is branded as “Blueberry” and functions separately from JRA. In November of 2009, JRA was rebranded to Reckner. We are a diversified company with expertise in both marketing and sensory research serving national and international clients across the spectrum of manufacturers, service providers, major market research companies and custom marketing and consulting companies. Each of our specialized business units focuses on the needs of their clients while incorporating our guiding principles of reason, scientific inquiry and human fulfillment.

Reckner has grown to be one of the largest independent opinion research companies in the nation. We have 5 locations in 4 states, over 200 employees, and 250,000 study participants each year.
